It is CHRISTmas !

Once again it is Christmas time not the holidays. I would like to know why it is that folks seem to think about Santa Claus, shopping and being afraid to offend.
This is the birthday of the Christ child not anything else. Enjoying the season with loved ones and friends and gift giving is all fine and well and you should. But why is it a bad thing these days to no longer hear programs at schools with the traditional carols and having the angels and the manger scene played out. It scares me that in today’s world we have to change everything to please a few. But the interesting thing about not allowing Christians to have their parts in these programs or not allowing Merry Christmas to be put up in stores, or nativity scenes in public places we are allowing other religions such as Muslims to display openly their beliefs and no one seems to mind. It seems that we are appeasing atheists, Muslims, and those who have no belief or disbelief. Somewhere Christians are getting the bad end of the deal. But the real bad end is that we no longer are allowing the Christ child his day and we are no longer allowing God his due. What is happening folks ?
It is of course anyone’s right to believe or disbelieve but why are we persecuting Christians ? Seems we have been down that road before. I care not about who I may offend or weather or not I am politically correct I say Merry Christmas and I love all that is Christmas yes even Santa Claus but I will never forget what Christmas is really about. Stand up and say Merry Christmas and do not bow down to those who demand we stop !

Embrace the times

In today’s USA or the world for that matter times are pretty hard. Many who enjoyed a good lifestyle are now facing bad times.
The Holidays are upon us and this usually tends to make those who can not join the crowds of shoppers out buying beyond their means depressed.
Rather then thinking about how bleak your Christmas will be because you have little to no income embrace the times.
America has had many a dark day in her history and yet somehow her people come through. It is not the end of this country and it is not as if we are seeing this for the first time. We have had many a bad politician in our past. We have had horrible economic times in our past. We have been threatened with socialism and communism in our past as well. We have always had those who seek to destroy us. What we did not have is the internet and TV to constantly remind us as to how bad it is and we got up and worked our way out of bad times. We embraced our families and spent quality time with them. We knew how to stretch a dollar and we admitted we were poor and did not rely on credit cards to buy that which we could not afford. Instead we gave home made gifts or did things for each other. A concept lost to many these days.
As a young mother I was dirt poor. I mean getting beans to stuff bean bags for toys was tough poor.
I was raised by parents who lived through the depression. Times just could not have been harder then they were then. My father made a good living but my parents opted to not indulge their children’s every whim. They dressed us nicely but on a budget. Toys we had but not what all the other kids were getting. We never got the latest ” as seen on TV” thing the other kids were getting but instead we got toys that would last or keep our interest. I really owe them a lot for teaching me to remain grounded and not enjoy all the latest bling.
I raised my children like that as well.
My children played hangman in the dirt with sticks with me. We were poor but yet it seems they think that those were some of the best times.
I am betting that if a young girl today got a set of jacks to play with and mom took the time to sit on the floor and play a game or two with her it would be a very treasured gift. My children and I did so many things such as gathering pine cones to make gifts out of. These were times we to this day treasure.
You can make the times good if you stop worrying about what you do not have and look at what you do. You have the gift of life. That is the greatest gift of all. No store can sell you that. You have a mind. If you turn off the computer and TV for a little while each day and go out and look around you and use your mind creatively you will find the joy. It is out there trust me. Take the time and step back. Stop driving yourself to be like others. You are not just like the next guy and does it matter what they think of you? Is that going to pay your bills ? The court of public opinion never meant squat to me.
Go out and find something you can do as a family that is different from other families. Spend time with the children you gave birth to and get to know them. Stop allowing others to feed their minds. Stop feeding the banks greed and the Wal marts of the world. Start a new but yet old trend and save money and live within your means and be creative with gifts from the heart not gifts you can not afford geared to make you look good. Create a board game. How do you think Monopoly was born ?
Try a homemade Christmas. I bet it will be one you and your family remember for years after long after the latest and greatest electronic device has lost it appeal or died.
